"She's really pretty!" It was the first thought
that came to me when I spotted her for the first time, one of the random days
in early September. It was something
about her, that I couldn't turn my head away; it made me want to keep looking
at her over and over again. Something in
my heart struck, was it love? Well, hadn't I always believed that love at first
sight didn't exist? After all, you needed time to know a person, and love came
much later after that.
Then, what was it about her that drew me in right from the
moment I caught sight of her? What was it that made me find chances to sneak a
glance at her? What was it that made me think of ways to start a conversation? What was her name? Where did she come from?
I felt this sudden curiosity, a strong urge to find out everything about her.
What started with awkward smiles and short conversations
groomed into something more deep and affectionate. In no time, I found myself
getting irresistibly attracted to her, finding strength and warmth in her
company. I was surprised at how honest I
could be with her, and comfortable to share things I didn't talk about with
anybody else. Chatting about random
things, calling each other names, fooling around...hours flew by like a blink
of an eye. With my feelings growing even
stronger day by day, I was scared to express how I felt for her, and what she
meant for me. Time was running out too, with the training coming to an end.
To celebrate the completion of the program, all of our mates
along with us decided to go out for a party. While the drinks passed on, I must have gotten
drunk. I felt dizzy and heavy on my head; I couldn't contain myself any longer.
"Does anybody want to go back with me?" I asked my
friends. Seeing that they were all busy with their drinks and having a lot of
fun, I wasn't surprised when nobody volunteered to take me back.
"I'll come along with you." As I started putting
on my shoes, I looked back to see her standing behind me.
I smiled at how pretty she was. We started walking down the stairs, and
looked for a cab to take us back.
To make matters worse, I saw my friends following us. "Oh, now they want to tag along! Why can't they just
leave us alone?" I frowned to myself as we headed back home. Once back, she and I decided to go to the rooftop for a
smoke. The cool night breeze did well to
me, I wasn't dizzy anymore, and we squatted on the floor and started talking.
It was growing chilly and I decided to get some blankets and cushions. My heart
skipped as both of us slipped under the blanket, the warmth of her body next to mine triggered
a desire so powerful and yet so
hesitant. As our arms brushed against each
other, it sent a chill down my spine; I was torn between the desire to embrace
her and the possibility that she would resist. And almost all of a sudden, I
felt her soft tender lips on mine and I realized we were kissing each other. As
I traced my hands along her soft hair and the perfect features on her face, I
felt her body tremble with my touch. As we looked into each other's eyes, she
gave me a coy smile, blushed and pulled me in her arms. It was the night we
confessed everything to each other, which would otherwise have not been
possible if we weren't drunk.
I realized then, that love at first sight indeed happens!
And it had definitely happened with me!
